Clean up your lace wig, hun.

3 hair care products for your new wig

Remember when I said that a dirty HD film lace wig won’t last long? I still mean that. In an earlier post, we shared four useful tips for cleaning and preserving your lace wig for a long time. As you know, lace wigs aren’t cheap… so with that in mind, it’s best to invest in its [hair] care.

Before you get tired at the thought of a typical natural hair ‘wash day’, this is nothing like that. I promise you! Washing your wig or cleaning it in other ways takes only a fraction of the time. Your arms won’t be as tired and you shouldn’t have to run to a corner of your room and cry at the prospect of detangling it. So yes, feel free to make brunch plans on your wig’s wash day!

Let’s get into the three basic hair care products that are perfect for you to maintain your new (or old) HD film lace wig.

Shampoo

In an earlier post, I told you not to use a shampoo that contains sulfates, parabens, mineral oil, or alcohol. Go with something that's mild and contains as few ingredients as possible. Your weave may become dry and brittle over time if you don't take care of it. Using a shampoo that softens your lace wig prevents this problem.

If you feel like spending a little but not too much more, Design Essentials has great hair care products. You won't find their products at most pharmacies but they're available on Amazon. Their Almond & Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling Shampoo is the most perfect sweet-smelling something! The formula is for 2B-4C natural hair types which makes it suitable for our virgin human hair bundles. Almond, avocado, shea butter, and coconut milk work together to hydrate your bundles!

When you use this product, you should only have to shampoo it once. Remember, don’t be rough as you shampoo your lace HD film lace wig! You don't want it to fall apart, do you? Instead, shampoo it as you would a baby’s scalp - gently.

Conditioner

While our wigs look natural, they’re not growing from your scalp! Please remember this when you select your conditioner. I don’t recommend that you use a leave-in conditioner because the wrong one may weigh down your wig. The good news is that Design Essentials has an Almond & Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling Conditioner to go with the shampoo above. Buy that.

After shampooing your lace wig, apply a quarter to a half handful of conditioner to your wig and avoid the roots. Leave the conditioner on for 15 minutes, then detangle with your fingers or a wig brush.

Oil and shine

Remember when I said that your wig doesn’t need much oil? I still mean that! It’s best to go with an oil that’s free of petrolatum (mineral) and alcohol. Why? Because mineral oil weighs down your hair and alcohol dries it out. You need something lightweight and odor-free. Like your hair, too many scents layered on top of each other become odors!

In the case of wigs, it’s always good to use a heat protectant whether you’re applying heat or going outside. Many heat protectants and thermal sprays contain enough oil to not weigh down your hair. This HSI Professional Argan Oil Thermal Protector is salon-approved for extensions and wigs.

So that’s it! The only three hair care products that every girl needs to take care of her HD film lace wig. After a proper install (by yours truly, if you’re based in Nassau), you shouldn’t have to do much with maintaining your wig! Do you have any lace wig hair care products that you swear by? Don’t hold out and drop them in the comments below, hun! Sharing is caring.
